Outback Steakhouse is a steakhouse concept with more than 1,200 locations spanning 22 countries. Established in Tampa, Florida in 1988, each reastaurant is a friendly, casual and relaxing place embodying the spirit of the Australian Outback with bold flavorful food, excellent service and attentive staff.

USEL became the franchisee for Outback Steakhouse in South East Asia in the year 2000. Since then, it has successfully brought to the region a great dining tradition. Ten years of serious food, generous portions, concentrated service and a friendly, casual ambience has made Outback Steakhouse the restaurant of choice by many. Although steak and other meat items make up a good portion of the menu, the concept offers a variety of chicken, seafood and pasta dishes.

With staff strength of over 300 dedicated Outbackers, USEL currently owns and operates restaurants in Singapore, Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Bangkok and will continue the spread to South East Asia's region wide.

Mr. James G. Cavalaris CEO & Managing Director
As Managing Director, Mr Cavalaris is responsible for the strategic development and operational results of all Outback Steakhouse – SEA restaurants and ensuring that all guests enjoys the highest quality food and service experience whenever they visit our locations.
He has rich experience of over 40 years of progressive and diverse experience in the hospitality industry. For the past 25 years, James has held upper-level operations management and business development positions in the restaurant/hospitality industry in the USA, Europe, The Americas and has over 15 years Asia/Pacific exposure.

  • Director Asia/Pacific- Development & Operations for Hard Rock Café
  • Director - Development and Operations of the TGI Fridays, Italianni’s and Fridays Front Row Sports Grill concepts in the Asia/Pacific region as part of Carlson Restaurants Worldwide
  • Senior leadership positions with several USA based restaurant organizations. In particular, during his 10-year career with the Steak & Ale Restaurant Corporation, James was primarily involved in the growth of the Bennigan’s brand.

Retno Savitri Soeprijadi Chief Financial Officer


Ms Savitri has rich experience of over 15 years in the Asia Pacific finance industry.
As CFO for Outback Steakhouse in South East Asia since 2001, Ms Savitri is responsible for supervising and handling the finance, accounting activities and legal activities of the holding company (USEL), corporate office and consolidation of 9 Outback stores.

Prior to joining Outback Ms Savitri served as a credit analyst in a joint venture multi finance company for medium size and big size companies in Indonesia.

Jakub R. Susanto AVP - Project Development


Over 16 years of industry experience in architecture and project development. At Outback Steakhouse, Jakub is responsible for market site analysis, space planning, interior design and signage to develop brand identity.
As part of project development he is also responsible for design brief for tendering, coordinating purchasing for furniture, imported equipment, small wares & signage, securing all aspect of the tenancy agreement, coordinating all contractors and suppliers as well as ensuring project progress to meet quality under approved budget.

Mr Susanto’s other experiences include roles as Assistant Vice President - Project Asset Management at Citibank N.A., Head of Business Development Division at Supermall, Lippo Karawaci Group, Jakarta and Market & Brand Development Senior Supervisor at Sinar Mas, Jakarta.
